It was a hot day and not too breezy. Sitting outside was the only option for us though as the terrace was so inviting and colorful, the ceiling fans making the heat disappear. The view was not bad either.

We started with the Brooklyn Pizza, a house-made pie with sweet and hot sausage, peppers, onion, tomatoes and provolone. It was marvelous and packed to the brim with flavor. The combination of sweet and hot sausage worked beautifully.

The Crab Panzanella was another winner. A lot of ingredients went into this dish: warm crabmeat, capers, olives, tomatoes, celery, ciabatta croutons, red onions and arugula. It was such a happy salad and gorgeous to look at. The crunch of the toasted ciabatta, the delicate crabmeat and the lively red onions injected a surprising dash of zest to this exceptional salad.

Next came an item from the Spuntini menu: a Caprese Sandwich made with imported burrata, homestead tomatoes, basil and saba (sweet grape syrup). Spuntini means “snacks” in Italian and the Caprese sandwich was scrumptious, the burrata especially decadent, melted and bringing all the elements of the sandwich together like a symphony.

The Chicken Paillard was a flattened chicken breast, sautéed and served as a healthy alternative to a typical burger. It was topped with a salad of baby arugula, shaved fennel, marinated artichokes, and dressed with lemon vinaigrette. It was really delicious in its simplicity; the salad crispy-fresh, a bouquet of greens mixed with artichokes and fennel.

The desserts or Dolci della Casa were not part of the plan. But they looked so pretty, why not try them? We had the Tiramisu and the Panna Cotta with Berries…OK, let me rephrase that, I had the tiramisu and the panna cotta. While my chickens went to the bathroom, I gobbled up both desserts, like some kind of sugar fiend: two hundred more sit-ups for me that transgression.
