Chef Carmen Trigueros Is All About A Balanced Lifestyle

Chef Carmen Trigueros is originally from Guatemala and has made Miami her home. She tells us in her own words how she leads a healthy and balanced lifestyle even though she is always surrounded by food.

 Refreshing food means for me low in salt with more herbs and spices rather than strong processed condiments, nothing with additives, preservatives or colorants.

 The inspiration of my everyday work is my family and my love for the food business. I have powerful, amazing people around me:  my husband and my partners at La Bottega, who keep me motivated and stimulate me to stay on top of the game. I follow their example, through hard work, perseverance and solid principles in the industry.  My husband, Manuel Trigueros, is an international businessman who also loves and lives for the pleasures of life. He is a grand gourmet and wine connoisseur.   The world is only one for him, and his multicultural exposure to all kinds of cuisines is a good compliment to my interest in the culinary arts, which I had since childhood. It was a perfect match, because of our shared passions.

I have traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and South America. All those countries and philosophies of life inspire my cuisine. The resulting experience led me to develop a certain type of cuisine, that you can call “International Modern.”

 A continued emphasis on fresh herbs, lots of spices from throughout the world inspired me to create modern dishes.  Asia and Brazil are emerging as culinary leaders of the new restaurants and I am extremely interested in exploring these novel combinations of flavors and getting new ideas for my food styling and plate presentations.

At La Bottega, where I am a partner, we love to take care of people, with a big smile, great food and fantastic wines; we create an ambiance of home sophistication.

In the end, it is all about balance: about mingling the right ingredients and sourcing them locally, about giving back to the community that supports our efforts and values what they put on their forks.

Balancing is also something I practice at home. With so much food around me, I have to find a way to stay fit and healthy, in both body and mind. How? Yoga every day. Positive thinking. Good reading. Passion for the work I do. Exercise. 

I believe that we can accomplish anything with good balance, discipline and determination. Finding equilibrium between work, well-being and love for what is cherished is truly important. 

I treasure the time I spend working out outdoors, enjoy the sun, wind and sand, and after a good workout, a refreshing shake that I make with fresh and organic ingredients is the perfect way to melt away the stress and stay healthy at the same time. I care mostly about my family and my work: between going to the gym, sports and spending time with my loved ones; I have little time for anything else. I am lucky that my work is in the service industry because I adore it.

Flowers are a gift of nature, a must in every home! Scented candles, fine china, linens, glassware, good music and superb cuisine. The table brings the family together. I love quality time at home: spa day, healthy food, and flowers all over. These things nourish my heart and soul.

Working on special private events and catering is my focus now. I want more freedom to be creative and explore more tastes and cuisines.
