I have been to Kon Chau Restaurant many times, mostly with my brother and never bothered to take pictures because I don’t think that dim sum is particularly pretty, but my love for this place is so grand that it deserves documenting. Each dumpling or bun is a bombastic package of flavor – not so cute on the outside but infinitely beautiful inside.
This time we went with Miss G. who also is a dim sum lover. We kept our selection small, for not to go overboard and enter into a severe food coma.
We ordered the Sticky Rice Wrapped In Lotus Leaf, Roast Pork Pie, Fried Crab Rangoon, Vegetarian Spring Roll, Steamed Roast Pork Bun, Baked Roast Pork Bun, Steamed Chicken Dumpling, Chive Shrimp Cake Leek Dumpling, and the Egg Custard Tart.
Each of these dishes was exceptionally good; my absolute favorite was the sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves. What a genuinely delicious dish! The aroma of the lotus leaves themselves was enchanting – a mixture of mild tea and tobacco. Upon opening the package, a radiant whiff of steam crawls inside your nose and makes your mouth anxious with anticipation.
The rice was packed with slices of sweet sausage and little chunks of pork – this lavish combination of ingredients left me sincerely fulfilled and so, so happy.

Kon Chau Restaurant is not a good-looking place, even though the restrooms are modern compared to the rest of the establishment; you can tell that it has been there for a long time. The food is outstanding though, the service friendly, fast and efficient and the prices are reasonable. Kon Chau serves dim sum daily which brings joy to my soul. They have a complete lunch and dinner menu and offer takeout and delivery.

I cannot wait until the next time I plunge my face into the sticky rice, bite into a creamy crab rangoon or delight in the lightness of a baked pork bun. All is well when one inhabits dim sum heaven.
