Burger & Bordeaux At db Bistro Moderne

We were invited to taste the famous Original db Burger. During the month of October this distinctive burger is celebrated and comes with an appetizer, dessert and a glass of Bordeaux.

I have always wanted to visit db Bistro Moderne so this was a golden opportunity. This restaurant was very modern indeed, with a very sleek and sexy atmosphere. We could not wait to bite into the burger. What could be so special about it?

We were given a tiny menu with a choice of appetizers and desserts and course, the burger.

We started with Shrimp Al Ajillo – Florida rock shrimp with lemon and garlic. The other appetizer option was the Beet Gnocchi served with a blue cheese fondue, candied walnuts and kale. Both were delicious, the gnocchi being especially lip smacking good

The Original db Burger was made with ground sirloin and stuffed with red wine-braised short ribs (off the bone) and foie gras. It was presented on a homemade toasted Parmesan and poppy seed bun with a touch of fresh horseradish and oven roasted tomato confit. The burger was huge, and tall. It was accompanied by db Bistro’s perfect Pommes Frites and a glass of 2010 Château de Ricaud, Bordeaux Superieur, Cadillac-Côtes de Bordeaux.

This has to be one of the best burgers I have ever tasted – it was rich, savory and filled with an indescribable umami that left the taste buds utterly overwhelmed by the wave of flavors that hit the tongue like a tsunami. It was just delicious.

Chef Jason Pringle perfectly captures the spirit of Daniel Boulud original burger recipe and pairs the menu well with the appetizers and desserts.

The desserts were either Chocolate Mousse or Fromage Blanc Mousse. We did get to eat a Warm Basket Of Madeleines: beautiful simple morsels of bliss. We loved them so much that we are going to try out a recipe at home this weekend. They would be perfect with a cup of tea.

We had a cocktail that was not part of the Burger & Bordeaux menu, The White Cosmopolitan made with Purity Vodka, white cranberry and lime. What a divine blend of flavors!
