I have been in this country for a long time, and one of the things that intrigued me when I got here was seeing a bunch of pumpkins, in piles, surrounded by scarecrows during the month of October. People usually visit pumpkin patches to choose a pumpkin for Halloween to make jack-o’-lanterns and to decorate for the season.
Halloween, scarecrows, jack-o’-lanterns? What was all that? Certainly not something I grew up with in Venezuela nor Grenada.
Halloween is still creepy and inexplicable for me up to this day – people dressing up in costumes and knocking on each other’s doors for free candy is just weird. Making jack-o’-lanterns out of pumpkins is hard work and crazy. I do like pumpkin patches, though, they make a perfect and colorful background for pictures.

I have been visiting the same pumpkin patch for the last four years. This year one of my chickens was missing – she had to work. It was strange not having her there this time; part of the growing-up process for both of us.
Seeing so many pumpkins in one place does remind me of all the delicious things you can do with them other than making jack-o’-lanterns. I have included an excellent recipe for Pumpkin Spice Latte from Peaceful Cuisine that I am sure you will enjoy. Scroll down to view.
